Have been listening to an advance copy of this ahead of a James Murphy interview tomorrow, and I’m honestly really into it. It’s big and lazy and sprawling, just like LA, where it was written and recorded, and has some classic songs on it. Drunk Girls is the token single, and it has a similar thing going on to North American Scum, but it’s better, and includes the line ‘just cuz you’re hungry doesn’t mean you’re lean’, which is incredible. The middle section - All I Want, I Can Change, and especially You Wanted A Hit - is just amazing slow burn-y disco stuff. The average song length is eight minutes, and they all take a while to build, so it’s not the most inviting album, but over a few listens, it starts to feel pretty momentous.
